NDIS guide · updated June 2026

NDIS SIL provider requirements

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is a higher-risk support, so it carries some of the strictest NDIS requirements. With SIL among the first supports affected by mandatory registration from 1 July 2026, getting your documentation right matters more than ever. Here is what is expected.

SIL is a certification support

SIL sits in a registration group that requires a certification audit against the core module and relevant supplementary modules of the NDIS Practice Standards. That means an on-site assessment and interviews, not just a desktop review.

Documents you need

SIL providers are expected to hold service agreements, a roster of care for each participant, house rules, and policies covering safeguarding, incident management, complaints, medication, and behaviour support where relevant.

Rosters of care and shared living

Because SIL often involves shared living, you need clear rosters of care that show how each participant's support is delivered and funded, plus arrangements that respect each person's rights and choices in a shared setting.

The 1 July 2026 change

SIL providers are in an early wave of mandatory registration, with changes commencing from 1 July 2026. If you deliver SIL, plan now to be registered and audit-ready. Timing and detail are set by the government, so check current guidance.
